Lapunti UP held a seminar conducted by Supreme Grand Master Undo Caburnay and Master Jun Igpit in time with the testing and promotion of some of its members. The seminar was held last July 11 and 12 at the UP Hotel and UP Carillon Plaza, respectively, as part of the club’s regular evaluation and update of its training curriculum and also served as a chance for the club’s members to just hang out and enjoy the company of both SGM Caburnay and Master Igpit.
The event kicked off with a lunch meeting at the UP Hotel’s Patio restaurant and was followed by a short review training session at the hotel’s open court area led by Master Buboy Ador, with SGM Caburnay and both Masters Jun Igpit and Nonoy Doncillo looking on. Master Jun Igpit then led the members through various training drills and gave a demonstration on various aspects of Lapunti, with SGM Caburnay indulging the members with an impromptu demonstration of his formidable skill in hitting and counterattack techniques while performing the tapi-tapi flow drill. The day concluded with the group moving back to the Patio restaurant for the rest of the afternoon and evening to discuss organizational matters with both SGM Caburnay and Master Igpit, interspersed with good-natured banter and brief demonstrations of empty hand and knife techniques from Master Jun Igpit in order to address some inquiries from the club members.
Sunday’s session started with the club’s regular training at the UP Carillon with the candidates for promotion focusing on reviewing for their rank examinations. The examinations started just before midday, officiated by SGM Undo, Master Jun, and the club’s senior instructors Masters Buboy and Nonoy, then followed the signing and awarding of rank certificates with SGM Caburnay doing the honors.
